Garden Award Winners 2008

The judging took place on 22nd June and the winning gardens, with the judge’s comments, are:

Colourful Garden: 20 Gillespie Crescent
A tiny space filled with beautiful rosy pink and purple and wine-red planting, carefully chosen for its all-year colour. With herbs and roses, its bench provides a happy place to sit and its mixed hedge allows passers-by to enjoy the feast too.
Eco Garden: 16 Lonsdale Terrace
I keep coming back to this garden, led by my ears because it is full of birds every time I pass. Birds munching and bathing and drinking amongst the buddleia and honeysuckle and shady secret places. Not at all a classic Edinburgh garden but one which is celebrated by Edinburgh’s wildlife.
Patio Garden: 1 Glengyle Terrace
This is a truly tiny space which bravely deserves a big award. A set of steps and a bright blue door garnished with the most tasteful arrangement of pots and hanging baskets and gorgeous cool blues and greens, creams and purples. I stop and breathe out each time I pass. Thank you for that.

Councillor Alison Johnstone presented the Prizes on Wednesday 13th August at 7.00pm in Tollcross Community Centre.
