Reported Crime Figures for December 2006

A total of 82 crimes or offences were recorded in the month of December for the Fountainbridge area.

Two vehicles were broken into, or had property stolen from them.
One vehicle was stolen.

There were 26 assaults reported during December, eleven of which were solved.

In relation to domestic housebreakings, there was one such report this month.
A total of 193 crimes or offences were recorded in the month of December for the Tollcross area.

As in previous months a large number of crimes are Thefts from within licensed premises and business premises with persons leaving property unattended. Mobile phones are a favoured item, with 13 stolen.

There were 62 reports of assault, of which 33 were solved.
There were 2 domestic housebreakings and 1 business housebreaking reported during December.

A ground floor flat in Gilmore Place was broken into. A camera computer, T.V., coins and jewellery were stolen.

There were NO business housebreakings this month.

A handbag and contents was stolen from a flat in Websters Land. The kitchen window had been left insecure.
A flat in East Fountainbridge was broken into by forcing the front door. A computer, Sat Nav, 3 mobile phones, 2 camera and bankcards were stolen.
There was one Business break-in.
A cash box and contents was stolen from the shop, Erogenous Zone in Bread Street.

Fiat Punto: Grassmarket
Ford Mondeo: Spittal Street
Unknown vehicle: Keir Street

The rear registration plate was removed from the Fiat Punto. A mobile phone and clothing were removed from the other vehicles.

A blue Yamaha motor cycle was stolen from Gibson Terrace. Two vehicles were stolen in December.

A Piaggio motor scooter was stolen from Castle Terrace, and a Yamaha was stolen from Wrights Houses. Attempts were made to steal two other vehicles, a Ford Mondeo at Lauriston Place and a Ford Escort at George Square.

There were three pedal cycles reported stolen in October.
Two from the same stair in Ritchie Place, the other from Tay Street.
A pedal cycle was stolen from George Square Lane. It had been left secured and unattended.

Racially Motivated Crime Racially Motivated Crime
There were NO racial incidents this month. A 23 year old Asian member of staff at the Job Centre at High Riggs was subjected to verbal racial abuse by a 50 year old white male. He was arrested and charged.

Two Indian males in their mid-twenties were subjected to verbal racial abuse in George Square by a white male aged 30–35 years. He had an eastern european accent. Enquiries are continuing to trace him.

Two Afro-caribbean door stewards in Victoria Street were subjected to verbal racial abuse by an 18 year old white female.
She was arrested and a report was sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

Two Afro-caribbean door stewards in Victoria Street were racial abused by a 22 year old white male. He was arrested and a report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal.
