Reported Crime Figures for January 2006

A total of 70 crimes or offences were recorded in the month of January for the Fountainbridge area.

Two vehicles were broken into, and attempts were made to steal three other vehicles during January.

There were 9 assaults reported during January, seven of which were solved.

In relation to domestic house-breakings, there were two such report this month.

Here are the crime figures for January 2006
A total of 200 crimes or offences were recorded in the month of January for the Tollcross area.

As in previous months a large number of crimes are Thefts from within licensed premises and business premises with persons leaving property unattended. Mobile phones are a favoured item, with 23 stolen.

There were 32 reports of assault, of which 16 were solved.

There were 3 domestic housebreakings and 2 business housebreaking reported during January.

A first floor flat in Gillespie Crescent was broken into by climbing a drainpipe to the front of the property, and climbing in. Two lap-top computers were stolen.
A local man was arrested whilst breaking into a first floor flat in Lochrin Terrace.
3 Domestic (Grassmarket (Apex Hotel), Valleyfield Street and Glen Street.

The 2 Business break-ins occurred at the Dental Institute, Lauriston Place and Oz Bar, Candlemaker Row.

A white LDV van in Lochrin Place was entered and a mobile phone stolen.
An attempt was made to break into a silver Ford Fiesta in Dundee Terrace. No entry was gained.
There were 7 break-ins or attempted break-ins to vehicles during January:
Nissan Micra, Drumdryan Street; VW Golf, Buccleuch Place; VW Polo, Buccleuch Place; Fiat Punto, Keir Street; Hyundai Accent, Keir Street; VW Golf, Lauriston Street; Ford Ka, Castle Terrace(NCP).

Attempts were made to steal three vehicles during January.
A purple Vauxhall Corsa in St. Peters Place, a blue Vauxhall Corsa in Lochrin Place, and a silver Nissan Bluebird in Murdoch Terrace, were all entered and attempts made to start them failed.
Attempts were made to steal two vehicles.

A Nissan Micra in Johnston Terrace and a Vauxhall Corsa in Leven Terrace were entered and attempts were made to hotwire them. Both vehicles failed to start.

There were three pedal cycles reported stolen in January.
(Bruntsfield Place and two in Bryson Road).
All had the security chain cut.
There were 5 in total, these occurring at Lauriston Park, Crichton Street, Bread Street, Forrest Road and Candlemaker Row.

Racially Motivated Crime Racially Motivated Crime
A 19 year old male shopkeeper in Dundee Street was subjected to racial remarks by a male in his late 20’s. Enquiries are continuing to identify and trace the suspect. There was one racially motivated crime reported during January.
The 29 year old Chinese police officer was subjected to racial remarks in Lothian Road.
A 20 year old male was arrested and charged. A report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal.
