Reported Crime Figures for July 2006

A total of 74 crimes or offences were recorded in the month of July for the Fountainbridge area.

Two vehicles were broken into, or had property stolen from them.
There were Eight vehicles stolen during July. Two were recovered near by.
There were 11 assaults reported during July, two of which were serious.
I relation to domestic housebreakings, there were 10 such reports this month.
A total of 203 crimes or offences were recorded in the month of July for the Tollcross area.

As in previous months a large number of crimes are Thefts from within licensed premises and business premises with persons leaving property unattended. Mobile phones are a favoured item.
There were 43 reports of assault, and 3 of serious assault.
There were 6 domestic housebreakings and 2 business housebreakings reported during July.

There were 10 domestic housebreakings reported during July. Three premises were in Yeaman Place, two at Viewforth.
The Others were Gilmore Place, Leamington Terrace, Gillespie Crescent and Tay Street.
All apart from one were broken into by using bodily pressure on the front door, one was with true key.
There was one business housebreaking reported.
Condor Self Drive, Lochrin Place was broken into and a van and money was stolen. The van was recovered a short time later.
There were 6 Domestic housebreakings in July.
They occured at Lauriston Gardens, Websters Land, Lady Wynd, Lansdale Terrace, Home Street and the Lawnmarket.
Computers, cash, DVD player, CD's and jewellery were amongst the items stolen.
Entry was gained to all properties by forcing the front door.
The 2 business break-ins occurred at Home Street and Lothian Road.
An MP3 player, clothing and cash were some of the items stolen.

All had been left secured.

These occurring at West Port, Earl Grey Street, George Square and Buccleugh Street.

A male has been charged with the offence in Dundee Street.

Racially Motivated Crime Racially Motivated Crime
An 18 year old Asian male shopowner was subjected to verbal racial abuse in Dundee Street by a white male who is believed to live locally, enquiries are continuing.

A 15 year old white female was subjected to verbal racial abuse in the street by a 32 year old Asian male. A report has been sent to the procurator fiscal.
A 33 year old Asian male was subjected to verbal racial abuse in Lothian Road. A male suspect is to be traced and cautioned and charged.

An Asian shopkeeper in Lothian Road was subjected to verbal racial abuse by a male. Enquiries on going to trace him.

A 26 year old Asian male was subjected to racial and physical abuse at Potterrow. A male suspect is to be traced and cautioned and charged.
